Nikolay Nikolaevich Yakhno

Nikolay N. Yakhno, MD, PhD, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation.

Nikolay Yakhno was born in 1944. After receiving an MD from the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow Medical Institute in 1967, he completed his graduate training in the Neural and Humoral Regulation Laboratory at the USSR Academy of Sciences. Then he worked as a research fellow in the Laboratory of Clinical Neurophysiology and Pathology of the Autonomic Nervous System of the Central Research Laboratory (I.M. Sechenov First Moscow Medical Institute). In 1980, he earned a doctorate degree in the field of neurological disorders. From 1985 to 1990, he was Head of Neurology Clinic of the Central Research Laboratory and Head of the Neurology Department of the Central Clinical Hospital (the USSR Ministry of Health’s Fourth Chief Directorate). From 1991 to 2012, he was Head of the Neurological Disorders Department of the Medical Faculty at the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy. At present, he heads the Neurology Research Department of the Research Center at the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

His research interests include somnology, clinical neurophysiology, pathology of the autonomic nervous system, epilepsy, extrapyramidal disorders, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disorders, neurogenic pain syndromes, peripheral nervous system disorders, cognitive disorders, and geriatric neurology.

Nikolay Yakhno is author and co-author of over 500 scientific publications. Among them are over 20 monographs, manuals for doctors, and textbooks for students.

He has supervised more than 70 master's and doctoral theses.

He is Chairman of the Moscow Society of Neurologists, Vice-President of the Russian Society of Neurologists, Vice-President of the International Association of Neurology and Neuroscience, and Chairman of the Academic Council for Doctorate and Higher Doctorate Degree Awards in the Fields of Neurological Disorders and Psychiatry (I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University).

Nikolay Yakhno has been Editor-in-Chief of the Russian neurological Journal since its foundation.
